Location: Oberlandstraße 26-35, 12099 Berlin, Germany
Size: 250,000 sq.ft.

The Mission:

To reimagine the (now largely derelict) iconic BUFA Berlin film studios as a self-sustaining, 24-hour global destination for creative, educational, social and co-working opportunities at the cutting edge of art, new media and entertainment

Our Response:

We revitalised many of the original BUFA buildings - the freestanding studios, post production facilities and prop houses - to blend old and new. Large glazed areas link two previously standalone structures, extending the spatial footprint and creating covered walkways to state-of-the-art studios, screening rooms and co-working spaces, without sacrificing the idiosyncrasies of the original architecture. The space-scaping is also unusually flexible; the campus’ epicentre plays host to several outdoor areas for both large-scale (festival-sized) and intimate events.

Committed to long-term sustainability The BUFA Campus is also focused on bring fully self-sufficient thanks to a variety of innovative eco-positive technologies and progressive agriculture including vertical farming, acroponics, aeroponics, clean technology (from electricity-generating paving to air-purifying paint) and waste-to-resource recycling systems. Nature is also inherent to the Campus; formerly derelict in-between areas have been re-worked into fertile zones to fuel on-site kitchens and shared ‘gardens. The latter are curated by both neighbouring local residents and the campus’ culinary businesses.
